György Cziffra (Georges Cziffra) né à Budapest le 5 novembre 1921 et mort le 17 janvier 1994 à Morsang-sur-Orge est un pianiste virtuose hongrois naturalisé français (1968). Issu d'une famille de musiciens Roms (György Cziffra père était cymbaliste et a joué durant les années 1910 à Paris dans les restaurants et cabarets), il montre dès son enfance un don particulier pour la musique. Son père lui donne ses premières leçons de piano, et à l'âge de quatre ans, il reproduit à l'oreille ce que joue sa sÅ"ur aînée. À cinq ans, il donne son premier concert dans un cirque. Il est accepté à neuf ans dans la prestigieuse Académie Franz Liszt de Budapest où son professeur est Ernst von Dohnányi. À 13 ans, il finit l'opérette d'un autre compositeur en un temps record. Dès l'âge de seize ans il débute les tournées à travers l'Europe, notamment en Hongrie, Pays-Bas et Scandinavie. La guerre l'appelle, il doit donc cesser d'étudier la musique, puis il es! t fait prisonnier en 1941. Il rejoint sa famille et son fils â€" György Cziffra également â€", et continue son étude du piano un an plus tard en 1947, auprès de György Ferenczy, tout en gagnant sa vie en jouant dans des bars de Budapest mais aussi en Autriche avec son ami Elek Bacsik. Très opposé au régime communiste hongrois, il est fait prisonnier politique de 1950 à 1953, et est soumis aux travaux forcés, comme porteur de pierres, ce qui lui vaudra à sa libération de longs mois de rééducation et des douleurs persistantes aux articulations ...

The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor "Quasi una fantasia", Op. 27, No. 2, popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata, is a piano sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven. Completed in 1801 and dedicated in 1802 to his pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, it is one of Beethoven's most popular compositions for the piano. Although no direct testimony exists as to the specific reasons why Beethoven decided to title both the Op. 27 works as Sonata quasi una fantasia, it may be significant that the layout of the present work does not follow the traditional movement arrangement in the Classical period of fast-slow-[fast]-fast. Instead, the sonata possesses an end-weighted trajectory, with the rapid music held off until the third movement. In his analysis, German critic Paul Bekker states that "The opening sonata-allegro movement gave the work a definite character from the beginning... which succeeding movements could supplement but not change. Beethoven rebelled against this determinative ! quality in the first movement.
